Mastering Better Mental Health Au is an independent small NDIS community business based on the Gold Coast. Whilst the business is small, thus is big at heart and carries many years of work experience in disability and mental health.
The word ‘Mastering’ can easily be misunderstood. Indeed, Mastering can be defined as having complete knowledge of the subject. However, in the context of our business model Mastering implies to progressively working towards Better Mental Health. Our head Counsellor - Marta Machava, founder of Mastering Better Mental Health states, “One of the greatest joys is to witness the transformation of ongoing therapy through the participant's behavior” and expressions such as ‘I cannot believe that I managed to master my fears’.

Hi there!
My name is Marta Machava. I am a proud Australian citizen, originally from Mozambique. I have lived in Australia for almost 20 Years.
For the past 15 years, I have been working and furthering my career in disability and mental health care. I have worked for well-established and respected organizations, including Parramatta Mission, Flourish Australia, Life Without Barriers and others.
Mental health is a passion of mine because it is based on my personal lived experience. Thus, everyone experiences some sort of mental breakdown at some stage in their lives. In my experience, I was able to overcome my mental health struggles through therapy and ongoing personal training and development. That is how the name "Mastering Better Mental Health" came about. Mastering involves progressively working towards your mental health with the support of your chosen therapist or service provider.
At Mastering Better Mental Health Australia, we value choice and control. Our support is tailored around individual goal setting and needs, to facilitate choice and control. When I started the business I knew that I would be privileged to be part of the person journey of healing and recovery. I do not take the participants for granted. I very much appreciate the need for support and I love the journey of walking alongside the person, empowering them and meeting targeted goals.
The core values that guide my professional practice are; respect, integrity, honesty, transparency, and social inclusion.
Everyone has a life story; I believe that each level should be treated with great sensitivity, non-judgmental regard, and confidentiality.
I find the holistic person-centered approach that I apply in my practice of support extremely rewarding because it empowers the participants to develop self-confidence and independence.
As a registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association, my professional membership requires ongoing professional development, training, and supervision to ensure that my knowledge, skills, and standards of practice are current and that they offer the best-informed care. Likewise, as a Lifeline Crisis Phone Supporter, I am required to complete ongoing professional development training and supervision.
I have absorbed the Australian value of volunteering and find great joy in giving back to the community by allocating some of my free time to Lifeline as a Crisis Phone Supporter and mentorship through Raise Mentor Foundation. Overall, I love learning, sharing knowledge, and being part of the community.
Thank you for reading my story, I hope that you find some connection with it and wish to find out more. If so, please do not hesitate to get in touch and enquire about the support services that we at Mastering Better Mental Health can provide.
